... 할수록... 해지다.

the + comparative adj. + clause, the + comparative adj. + clause.

※ clause: (주어 동사가 갖춰진) 절

 

A: What time should we leave? 

    몇 시에 갈까?

B: The sooner the better. (=as soon as possible)

     빠를수록 좋아.

 

 

If you works harder, you are more stressed.

▶ The harder you work, the more stressed you are. 

더 열심히 일할수록, 더 많은 스트레스를 받게 될 거야.

 

We should decide what to do as soon as possible.

▶ The sooner we decide (what to do), the better.

뭘 해야 할지 빨리 결정할수록 더 좋을 거야.

 

Cindy had to wait a long time and became more and more impatient.

▶ The longer Cindy had to wait, the more impatient she became.

신디는 오래 기다려야 할수록 더 참을성이 없어졌다.

 

 

※ the... the 비교급은 책이나 인터뷰 말고는 일상에서 들은 적이 많이 없어서 친구들에게 물어보니 확실히 덜 쓰는 편이긴 한 것 같긴 하다고 했다. 물론 안 쓴 다는 말은 아니다.

 무언가를 서둘러서 끝낼수록, 더 쉽게 실수하기 마련이다.

MUCH / A LOT, etc. + COMPARATIVE

비교급 강조를 위해 쓰이는 부사

a lot             much              far              ↔             a little              a bit              slightly

 

Don't go by train. It's a lot more expensive. (= It's much more expensive. = It's far more expensive.)

기차 타지 마세요. 훨씬 더 비싸요.

 

Could you speak a little more slowly? = Could you speak a bit more slowly? = Could you speak slightly more slowly? 

조금만 더 천천히 얘기해 주실 수 있으실까요?

ANY and NO + comparative 

부정문과 비교급 강조

no / any + comparative

※ any는 의문문이나 부정문에만 사용된다.

※ any는 비교급에서 두 가지 사이에 차이가 없음을 강조할 때 쓰이기도 한다.

 

This hotel is better than the other one, and it's no more expensive.

여기 호텔이 다른 곳보다 더 나은 것 같아. 그리고 더 비싸지도 않잖아.

 

The traffic isn't especially bad today. It's no worse than usual.

오늘은 특별히 교통 상황이 나쁘지는 않아. 평소보다 차가 막히진 않거든. 

 

I need to stop for a rest. I can't walk any further.

멈춰서 좀 쉬어야겠어. 나 더 못 걷겠어.

 

I'm sorry I'm a little late, but I couldn't get here any sooner. 

늦어서 죄송해요. 그런데 이것보다 빨리 올 수는 없었어요.
